Why not just release him and take a RB in the upcoming draft? Then you'd have a guy under a cheaper rookie contract for 4 years.
Seems like the smarter move.
It would appear they don't believe they will be able to get an impact player they desire without giving up on a position they need more. This way they can just ignore the real issue and kick the can down the road.
That's just me guessing though.
It's not a bad guess. It's just such a deep RB class it's hard to believe
somebody good won't be around in the 5th & 6th rounds.

They did draft Joe Burrow... I think that's the last time I can remember.
