I was pretty happy with my draft, but Yahoo! gave me a C grade. F those guys.

I'm riding Lamar and Saquan to the championship! Not to mention my value-pick ace-in-the-hole: Tyler Boyd.
Yeah, I like your team too. And you went heavy on Bengals, so I have to admire the optimism. When you win the league with Joe B slinging the ball all over the place and setting new rookie records, we'll all feel pretty stupid that we let you get him in the 14th round. Though I see he's in good company there in the 14th with Brady, Rogers, and Big Jen.

It was a slow day at work, so I took some time to compile an unofficial history of the OSF FF league.

The earliest records that Yahoo! Sports has of our league is from 2007, but I'm pretty sure we started playing before that. In fact, I'm pretty sure I (Akili's Myth) won back-to-back championships and made a signature to commemorate the fact, i.e. rub it in everyone's noses. And I haven't won since, so there's that. Historians date the "modern era" of OSF FF from six years ago: since then, we've had the same 8 teams vying for dominance every year. More on that in a second.

The early years were pretty wild though. We had 10-12 teams, mostly with different names every year so that it was hard to tell who's who. Some classic names included: Psycho Sid, JOTTsBadNewzOtters, Dipshit Shovel Pass, Spudweisers and the Neverland Ranchers. Not to mention the more statement-oriented team names: Lewis = Lose, Fuck You Mike Brown, and Die Mikie Die. At the same time, at least six of the teams that comprise our modern 8-team league played through those years, with some documented success. Akili's Myth definitely won the 2007 championship (and probably won 2006), then a bunch of wankers who didn't stick with the league long after winning championships, and then four of our modern franchises won: Stinkfist Aenema, POOPSHIP DESTROYERS, Beastz (then known as 4256 Hits Jr.), and Benzoo. Feel free to chime in if any of you were actually around under other names--I don't want to teach skewed history to future generations of OSFers.

The first championship of the modern era went to POOPSHIP DESTROYERS, who narrowly missed back-to-back championships when 4256 Hits beat him to win his first championship the next season. Then Stinkfist Aenema went from worst to first to win his second championship (and first of the modern era). He couldn’t repeat though, as Orange Bumblebees not only won their first championship in 2017, he went back-to-back! In those same years, 4256 Hits finished 7th twice, but then came roaring back to win the most recent crown, his second in the modern era, tied with the Orange Bumblebees for most championships, and technically tied with Stinkfist and Poopship, each with two (one each in the modern era) and Akili’s Myth with 2 ancient titles.

Lacking recent success, I had to dig deep into the analytics to find something to hang my hat on, and I found that I have the highest average finish of any team in the modern era (I'll take my moral victories where I can get 'em!), making the top 4 every year since 2015. OB might have the most inconsistent performance in that time period, with 2 championships, 2 last place finishes, and 2 7th places, plus a third. For the record, I would absolutely trade my consistent okay-ness for those two championships though! If OB continues the cycle, I think he's due for a bounceback season!

And who will win this year? Will the 4256 Hits dynasty continue with back-to-back wins? Will Akili’s Myth finally break through in the modern era after finishing 2nd last season? Will Stinkfist and POOPSHIP bounce back from 3rd and 5th place finishes to take the lead in total championships? Or will a new king of the hill emerge? Maybe the Beastz rekindle their glory days. Maybe the Sugar Reys finally put it all together. Benzoo's had a bunch of second place finishes--maybe the year of the Corona is finally his time to shine. Only time will tell.

I noticed this weekend that, despite being 0-4, I was only in 6th place, and I realized what a haves and have nots league we have so far this year. Three 0-4 teams, 2 4-0 (including the Poopships who really are DESTROYING us all) and 2 3-1 teams. But hey, it's a long season and Covid could lay low the haves any time now.
