Cam's deal includes six million dollars of incentives that include how far the Pats make it into the Playoffs. So 14 mil is the top level. That makes him much more expendable if they decide to go in a different direction.
Yeah, I have to believe this is a place-holder move till they can make a deal down the line for someone else. (Darnold...?)

Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet)
The #Bucs have agreed to terms on a 1-year extension for QB Tom Brady, sources say, one that gives the Super Bowl champs some cap room and locks Brady in 2022.

Darnold deserves a chance outside of New York. The guy feels like he's been around forever already and he's only 23. He's six months younger than Joe Burrow. He's never had anything around him and he's had some injuries (and mono) he had to work through.

Chase Claypool showing off that Pittsburg class, kicking a man in the head whilst on the floor... it is beginning to look like they may be a dumpster fire
this year

You would think an SC guy like Pete Carroll might take a chance on him. Bring him in as a back up this year, get him used to your system and then if things go south with Wilson next off-season you've got a viable replacement.

Sounds like New York has been telling every free agent that they are recruiting that Darnold is the starter in New York. Obviously things change, but it feels like the direction they are currently going.

It's a very real possibility.
In fact NFL.Com's latest Mock out yesterday has the top five as
1. Jags - Trevor Lawrence
2. Jets - Penei Sewell
3. Dolphins - Ja'Marr Chase
4. Falcons - Zach Wilson
5. Bengals - Rashawn Slater
I think there's a good chance somebody tries to trade up ahead of the Falcons to grab their choice of QB so it may not play out like this, but it's definitely possible.

This would be my nightmare scenario honestly.. If we're stuck at 5 with both Chase and Swallows gone, we gotta trade back!
